Trigger Point Injections

What Are Trigger Point Injections?

Trigger point injections are used to alleviate pain in those who have consistent, active muscle pain in a trigger point. These are sore, sensitive spots commonly occur in the neck, back, arm or leg areas. During these injections, a small needle with local anesthetic, saline or a corticosteroid is delivered directly into the patient’s trigger point to alleviate this muscle pain.

Benefits of Trigger Point Injections

The primary benefit of trigger point injections is pain relief. During the injection, the trigger point is made inactive so the muscle pain disappears. This is one of the only ways to get this specific and precise pain relief in an area that is this uncomfortable. For many patients this is a much more practical and effective solution than taking pain medications.
